Here are a few quick samples of HD Radio sound from some initial testing with a borrowed Boston Acoustics Recepter HD tabletop radio on 23 Feb 2006.
To eliminate any further compression artifacts, these are uncompressed 44.1 kHz, 16-bit .wav files, and are large (19-32 MB each). Please save them to your local drive (right-click on the link in Firefox or IE - but surely you're not still using IE, are you?) and play them from there.
These are the three AM stations in town broadcasting in HD. Each clip begins in analog, then goes to HD, and is scoped down to include several program sources wherever possible. At the end of the WHAM clip, you can hear their HD shut off at 5:45 PM, local sunset here in Rochester.
WLGZ 990 Rochester NY (in its first day of AM HD)
And one more, just for fun...
This clip is not in HD, though I was getting enough HD data from them to light the indicator and even, briefly, to display "WBZ" on the screen. But it does show what it sounded like just before 6 PM when 'BZ shut off its HD and went back to wider analog audio bandwidth. Is this a distance record for AM HD data?
I'll add some FM later, though there's not much to hear here - Infinity's WZNE 94.1 is on in HD and is multicasting, simulcasting its main channel on HD2. Crawford's WRCI 102.7 is on in HD and has a WLGZ simulcast on its subchannel. And Clear Channel's WISY 102.3 and WNVE 107.3 are on in HD, with no multicasting yet.
Enjoy!
