Some of the stories we’re following for the next issue of NERW:
Bloomberg Radio is returning to Boston after a 17-year absence, and displacing comedy along the way. Beginning Friday morning at 12:01, Clear Channel’s WXKS (1200 Newton) will be leased out to Bloomberg for its business format, augmented by local headlines, traffic and weather from Metro Networks four times an hour. The business talk will also be heard on WJMN (94.5)’s HD2, while “Matty’s Comedy” will stay on WXKS-FM (107.9)’s HD2 when it leaves AM.
Cox is exiting its last small TV markets in the region, unloading NBC affiliates WJAC (Channel 6) in Johnstown, PA and WTOV (Channel 9) in Steubenville, OH/Wheeling, WV to Sinclair. How will that shake up the TV scene around Pittsburgh? All the details in Monday’s NERW.
There’s a shakeup in Albany TV, too, as Hubbard’s WNYT (Channel 13) joins the duopoly club with the acquisition of MyNetworkTV affiliate WNYA (Channel 51). We’ll analyze the new competitive balance there.
And we’ll remember one of the last veterans of the early days of Boston radio and TV, with news of the death of longtime WBZ general manager Wilmer C. Swartley, who passed away recently at age 104. A full obituary in Monday’s NERW.
We’ll also have news of a translator shift in Buffalo, an identity shift in southwestern Ontario, a PD opening in Albany and staffing shifts in New York and Philadelphia, and much more. Don’t miss an issue – subscribe now for as little as $5.99!
