This year at the Rochester Fringe Festival, Scott and Lisa are involved in three productions (and will be attending plenty more!)
On Friday, Sept. 12 and Saturday, Sept. 20 at 9 PM, it’s the biggest and best edition yet of our “Comedy on Deck Comes Inside” shows.
We’re back for a third year, but this time with a twist!
“Comedy on Deck: Well Seasoned” features Scott and Lisa as your headliners, sharing the best of their comedy about being “of a certain age,” coping with aging parents, growing kids, aches and pains in weird places, legal weed, life after public radio and much more.
It’s comedy for grown-ups, but all ages (16+) are welcome.
Lisa Fybush is not a Rochester native but has lived here for 28 years, longer than anywhere else. She has been a writer and editor for more than 30 years.
In addition to being administrative assistant to her husband, Scott, she hosts The Tragical History Tour, a weekly alternative Beatles radio show, now entering its 10th year on the air. She also is a cast member of The Dinner Detective, a murder-mystery dinner theater show. Lisa has been a standup comic for six years, appearing around Rochester, Syracuse and Buffalo. She has also performed in New York City, Washington DC and her hometown of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Scott Fybush is a Rochester native who’s worn many hats over the years. You might have seen him as a TV news reporter or heard him on public radio, where he was a host and reporter for over 20 years.
By day, he’s a broadcast engineer and consultant. After hours, he’s a standup comic and storyteller who’s excited to be part of his third Catharsis Time show. He’s performed standup everywhere from Edmonton to Austin to Brooklyn to, um, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Scott lives in Brighton with Lisa, their dog Sadie, and their teenage son, who intensely dislikes his parents’ comedy.
Each show features some of our favorite local comics, too!
On Sept. 12, Marty Garcia-Cotter hosts and Jessica DeMarte features.
Marty Garcia-Cotter is on a mission to prove that you CAN teach old dogs new tricks. At the tender age of 63, Marty’s friend tricked him into telling some jokes in public. He got hooked on stand-up comedy. Covid stopped him before he could start but at the age of 65 he threw himself head first into open mics in Rochester and Ithaca.
Marty has done shows and open mics in Western New York, New York City, Seattle, San Francisco and LA. In September of 2024, Marty did four shows in Malta and an impromptu performance in Sicily. He’s excited to be doing Fringe for the fourth year in a row.
Jess DeMarte has been making audiences laugh on the Rochester comedy scene for the past three years. A semi-finalist in Rochester’s Funniest Comedian, she’s also performed improv as part of Focus Theater’s house team. You can catch her writing and performing sketch comedy with The Roustabouts at the Fringe Festival.
On Sept. 20, Shawn Hennessy hosts and Lisa Vanderhoff features.
Also on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 7:30 PM, Lisa and Scott are back for the third edition of the critically acclaimed “Catharsis Time!,” making storytelling gold out of some of the embarrassing things that happened to them years ago, as chronicled in diaries, letters and photos. It’s a new show this year, with new (but just as cringeworthy) stories, all produced and directed with aplomb by our great friends Matthew Moore and Sara Zavacki Moore.
(Note – there are two great casts this year, but if you want to see Lisa and Scott, you need to come on the 20th.)
Get your tickets here!
There are also lots of great shows this year that don’t happen to have a Fybush in them, and you can find them all – and get tickets, where needed – at the Rochester Fringe Festival website.
See you there!
Lisa and Scott
