In this week’s issue… Remembering Boston’s Lyndon Byers – CRTC approves Rogers, Evanov spins – Towers come down in PA, and might go up in NY – More FM moves in Ontario

*Most of us are lucky to have one really good career. Very few of us are as fortunate as Lyndon Byers, who got to enjoy success twice in a life that ended far too young last week.
Byers’ first act, of course, was as a Bruins star in the 1980s, playing nine seasons as a long-haired, penalty-happy enforcer on a team that made two trips to the Stanley Cup finals.
But then after his retirement from hockey in the 1990s, “LB” embarked on a second journey as a radio host, joining Greg Hill’s WAAF (107.3) morning show, where he spent 23 years as part of the cast before moving to afternoons with Mike Hsu when Hill moved to WEEI. Byers left WAAF abruptly in late 2019, surprising Hsu by walking out live on the air mid-show.
On the radio before that all happened, Byers was a sports guy whose appeal extended beyond just straight sports reporting. He also dabbled in acting, appearing on “Rescue Me” and making several movie cameos.
Byers was just 61 when he died on Friday; a cause of death hasn’t been announced yet, and memorial plans are still pending.
