In this week’s issue… Funding cuts hit NYC AAA FM – I95’s new home – Remembering sports radio’s Cloghessy – NJ FM seeks move

*Even before Darren DeVivo decided to attend Fordham University in NEW YORK, the university’s WFUV (90.7) was part of his musical life as a Westchester County high school student listening in late at night.

Since arriving at Fordham as a student in 1983, DeVivo has become the most consistent voice on WFUV, hosting weekends after graduation and then becoming one of the first hires in 1991 when the station went from college radio to a professionally-run, listener-supported AAA music station.
Over the years, WFUV listeners heard DeVivo in afternoons, mornings, middays, evenings, and most recently late nights and weekends.
But that 41-year tenure came to an abrupt halt last week when WFUV cut five jobs, about 12% of its staff, in response to the loss of nearly half a million dollars a year in CPB funding.
It’s not just DeVivo who’s out without a farewell show. Eric Holland, who hosted the 6-10 PM weeknight shift and served as assistant music director, also lost his job, as did programming operations director Eric Gottlieb and several staffers behind the scenes in membership and operations.
Additional shifts within WFUV include PD Rich McLaughlin’s move to become associate GM, while Russ Borris and Meghan Suma take over as co-PDs. Off the air, WFUV’s business department will be focusing more on digital sponsorships and revenue.
“We’ll be reimagining how WFUV serves listeners and artists in New York,” said McLaughlin in an announcement. “These changes align us with the future of public media: more local, more digital, and more connected to our community. They position us not only to adapt but to thrive.”
THE CLOCK IS TICKING…
As we announced a few weeks ago, the 2026 edition of the Tower Site Calendar will be the last.
We began publishing it 25 years ago, and the broadcast landscape is radically different now.
Radio World just ran an excellent article about us if you want to know more.
Once it’s gone, that’s it. We won’t be printing any more.
Thank you to everyone who saw our announcement and rushed to buy it. We appreciate you.
(There are some calendars from previous years if you want more of a tower photo fix — all under $5.)
But don’t wait to get this year’s Tower Site Calendar — buy it now!
We are selling the Broadcast Historian’s Calendar again this year, but we have that in an even smaller quantity — definitely don’t hesitate for that.
And visit the Fybush Media Store to check out our selection of books and videos, too!
