In this week’s issue… Bills extend new radio network – New leader at NYSBA – RI morning team plans retirement – WSUC alumni gather – Cuts at Corus in Canada

*The Buffalo Bills have announced their radio network affiliates for this fall, including two notable outlets far from the new Highmark Stadium. Since the new Bills’ network is a partnership with Good Karma Brands, it’s no huge surprise that two of Good Karma’s ESPN stations will be carrying the team: WEPN (1050) in New York City, and WESP (106.3) in West Palm Beach to serve the considerable community of expatriate Western New Yorkers who winter down there.

Will the Bills on the radio get the same kind of ratings that the Giants or Dolphins draw on their flagship FM stations? Of course not, but that’s not the point – even out-of-market NFL games will draw bigger ratings on Good Karma’s stations than weekend ESPN talk, and that will mean more revenue for the new Bills network.

In addition to new flagship WGRF (97 Rock), western New York will also hear the Bills on iHeart’s WAIO (Rock 95.1) in Rochester, WWSE (SE93) in Jamestown, WPIG (Big Pig 95.7) in Olean, WKPQ (Kickin’ Country 105.3) in Hornell and WMTT (the Met) in Elmira.

Across the state line in Pennsylvania, affiliates will include iHeart’s WRKT (Rocket 105) in Erie and WRAK (1400) in Williamsport, as well as WBRR (100.1) in Bradford.

Additional New York State affiliates (most of them returning) include WACK in Newark, WGVA/WAUB in Geneva/Auburn, WIII in Ithaca, WENE in Binghamton, WSKO in Syracuse, WKLL in Utica, WOTT in Watertown, WQTK in Ogdensburg, WSDE in Cobleskill and WOFX in Albany.

The iHeart deal also includes extra carriage for the daily “One Bills Live” show that’s no longer on former flagship WGR. It will now air in Rochester on WHTK (1280).

Looking to get into station ownership? Our StationSale division has some great new listings for you, including a very successful multimedia combo including radio/digital/print in one of the finest small markets in the region, a major market FM translator opportunity, a profitable Midwest FM, an inexpensive entry into a fast-growing Western market, and a turnkey profitable FM/AM/translator small-market combo that’s ready for a new owner. Drop me a line at scott@fybush.com and I’ll set you up with an NDA and all the details…

And if your noncommercial FM station is ready to think about translators, there’s a filing window coming this fall from the FCC and it’s the perfect time to start making plans.
