In this week’s episode –
Top of the Tower is back with a new spring/summer season of conversations with some of the most interesting people in radio!
This week, it’s another joint episode, a two-way chat with my good friend Jason Togyer.
Like me, Jason wears a lot of hats. In his day job, he’s a veteran communications pro, currently working with the University of Pittsburgh.
But he’s also deeply passionate about keeping community news and entertainment alive in the Mon-Yough Valley outside Pittsburgh, where he’s the executive director and editor of Tube City Community Media, which includes an online news service and a streaming radio station that try to fill the roles once played by now-defunct local newspapers and radio stations in McKeesport and vicinity.
Jason’s also a radio host on his own stream and on Carnegie Mellon’s WRCT in Pittsburgh, where his alter ego Jay Thurber hosts “Radio 9” on Saturday afternoons. And you might have seen his cartoons in radio magazines and, for a little while, here on this site, too. (We should have him do more!)
In this conversation shared between my podcast and his “Two Rivers, 30 Minutes,” we range widely over topics including community media, the state of the FCC, ham radio, and much more. (Listen to the other half of the conversation, as heard on his show, here.)Â
